These two heads are identical, only
differing in that a variable contrast filter module was included with the
Vari/Con. Intended to provide a convenient diffusion lamphouse for black
and white printing, they were based on the C760 Dichroic lamphouse and
used the same quartz-halogen lamp and mixing chambers.
The
variable contrast filter module used dichroic yellow and magenta filters
mounted with an attenuator in a small frame which fit in the slot on top
of the lamphouse. The filter was calibrated for both Kodak Polycontrast
and Ilford Multigrade papers. By raising or lowering the filter slide,
the user had continuously variable filtration.
In addition to fitting the
C760, they came with a bracket for mounting on C-700 and B600 enlargers,
and adapter kits were available for mounting on the B-66, B-22, and C-67
enlargers.
Used Advice: Since they are based on the C760 Dichroic head, these
units can be easily serviced, but the variable contrast filter module is
no longer available. As with the dichroic lamphouse, used units should be
examined for physical damage, particularly the styrofoam mixing chambers. |
