All the D series
lamphouses consist of three sections - the lamp cap that has the lamp
socket, the main body with the mounting points, and the condenser
assembly. The differences between the lamphouses essentially are all to
do with the main body assembly. All D series lamphouses since 1941 have
used the same 6½" standard condenser set.
This is the basic
double condenser lamphouse that was standard for DII,
and initially for the D2 and D3 enlargers. As can be seen, there is no
provision for filters. For formats other than 4x5, the user was required
to install accessory condenser sets to match the focal length of the lens
being used. Three additional sets were originally offered - 5", 4½", and
3½". Later, a 411/16"
set replaced the 5" and 4½" sets.
Used Advice: Anyone
encountering this type of lamphouse should first check that the auxiliary
condenser sets are included. If not, rather than attempting to track down
missing condenser sets, it's better to install a DV conversion kit, which
will provide both the more convenient variable condenser configuration as
well as a filter drawer. |
