The Chromega
colorheads had been on the market for almost 10 years before there was a
major upgrade. Lamp manufacturers had introduced brighter, more efficient
halogen lamps, and it was logical to incorporate these new lamps into the
Chromega heads. As Omega was in the process of upgrading, prior to the
Super Chromega heads, there was a brief period of transitional Chromega
heads using the halogen lamps.
The original
Chromega B lamphouse had been discontinued for several years, so the new
B-series head introduced at Photokina in 1968 bore the name "Chromega B
Halogen," and there was a new corresponding enlarger model, the "Chromega
B8 Halogen Enlarger." The lamphouse looks virtually identical to the Super
Chromega B lamphouse, however it does not have interchangeable mixing
spheres, covers only up to 2¼"x2¼", and the filtration range is 0-120. The
Chromega B Halogen was replaced by the Super Chromega B lamphouse within a
year.
During the same
period, the Chromega D and Chromega F lamphouses were upgraded to use the
halogen lamps, but in these cases the heads were not rebadged as Chromega
Halogen, but simply remained as Chromega, albeit with new catalogue
numbers to reflect the change.
Used Advice:
As with the Chromega and Super Chromega units, we do not recommend the
purchase of used Chromega Halogen heads due to the difficulty and expense
of replacing the acetate filters. |
