The Super
Chromega D Dichroic was the first of Omega's third generation color
lamphouses, and thus the first to use the new dichroic filters. It's
testament to the quality of the original engineering that the same unit
was in production, virtually unchanged, for over 40 years.
The only revision
to this head occurred in 1974 when an on/off switch for the panel lamp was
added, and the dial calibrations were changed from 0-150 to 0-168 to more
closely match the filter values of acetate color printing filters. These
small changes resulted in the unit being renamed the Super Chromega D
Dichroic II. And the same unit has remained unchanged since then. Over
the years, it has been sold with the D2, D3, D4, D5, D6 and ProLab II
enlargers. For many years the units had end plates finished in grey with
brushed aluminum trim as illustrated above. Late production versions have
all black finish.
The same design
was used for the Super Chromega E Dichroic lamphouse, albeit on a slightly
larger scale to accommodate the 5x7 format.
Used Advice:
In all respects this is a well engineered, rugged unit, but used examples
should be checked for heavy usage and worn parts. Since the unit had such
a long production run, it can be easily serviced. Used lamphouses often
require the mixing chamber relined and a new light seal. |
